The Center for Applied Demography and Survey Research
(CADSR) has operated a regional survey research operation since 1962. Currently,
clients come from the private, public and non-profit sectors. The primary objective is to collect high-quality information using professional
interviewers and the best methodologies available for sampling, instrumentation, and data processing. In the past five years, CADSR has
conducted surveys for the Delaware Department of Transportation (DELDOT) that have issues ranging from growth policy and air pollution to
more traditional origin and destination students. Currently CADSR is continuing the origin and destination project with a monthly data collection
project of travel patterns which is now in its second year. Significant projects have also been conducted for DELDOTs transit components.
For the last ten years, CADSR has conducted the Behavioral Risk Factor
Surveillance System survey for the Centers for Disease Control and the Delaware Division of Public Health. In the past year, significant public
policy oriented research was carried out for the Delaware Health Care Commission, the Delaware Department of Instruction, and various law
enforcement agencies including the New Castle County Police and the Wilmington Police. CADSR has a long-term commitment to bringing the
best information to policy-makers in the State of Delaware and the region.
CADSR uses a CATI (computer assisted telephone interviewing) lab that
features the latest software. The staff is fully proficient in the creation and
deployment of automated survey instruments. An experienced telephone supervisor is on duty at all times to supervise distribution of sample,
monitor quality control and resolve any other issues. All telephone numbers in a sample are tried at least fifteen times, using a rigorous
schedule of call backs to ensure that a number has been tried on all possible calling occasions. During data collection, interviewers are
monitored, both audio and visual) from the onset of a study to its completion. The data are routinely checked for errors and inconsistencies.
On average, more than a thousand surveys are conducted monthly in this
facility. In addition, CADSR has available a staff of professional interviewers who operate from their homes. Mail surveys are conducted
where appropriate and are processed by CADSR's customized network-based data entry software.
